IHCD D1/D2 initial course. This is a 3 week course run from the Emergency Medical Services Training Centre at Stafford, using our own 3500kg driver training vehicles.

Course Overview:
This course will develop driving skills to the highest professional standards, in line with the Ambulance Driving Manual, Highway Code and the Road Traffic Act. The student will be taught to drive an ambulance safely, smoothly, systematically and progressively under all road and traffic conditions. D1 is part of the PTS and Technician training, and consists of theoretical knowledge of the Highway Code, Road Traffic Law, and the Ambulance Driving Manual. D2 is designed for aspects of driving common to non-emergency and emergency situations.

Course Length:
3 weeks (3 x 5 days) Course held at Lifeskills Medical EMS Training Centre Stafford.
Requirements:
All applicants must hold a current UK driving licence, which ideally (but not essential) should include DVLA categories C1 & D1.
Course Includes:
Observation skills, braking, steering, gear changing, basic implementation of the road-craft system of driving, overtaking, corners & bends, reversing & manoeuvring, hazard awareness, motorway driving, night driving, skid avoidance, assessing the need for an emergency response, the ability to drive the vehicle safely to emergencies, the ability to demonstrate the correct attitude when responding to emergencies. The course also includes all training packs, notes, lunches, IHCD registration and IHCD exam fees.

Course Charge:
£2,100.00 plus vat per student for the entire course.

Whilst it is not compulsory, it is recommended that this is a residential course, and we can provide details of local hotels or B&B’s. The nearest hotel (Premier Inn) is just 2 miles from our centre, and there are plenty of others to choose from.
